Baseball Pioneers is a collection of true stories of guts and glory as told by pioneering men and women of the game.

What makes this book special is four of the six pioneers are women! We at the Sweet Spot are advocates for women in baseball and their contribution to the national pastime is often overlooked. You’ll meet women from the All-American Professional Girls Baseball League, a female umpire that’s been behind the dish for almost 40 years, and Justine Siegal, the first woman to be hired to coach a major league team.

Baseball Pioneers also features a collection of remarkable stories from Jim “Mudcat” Grant, the first African-American to win 20 games in the American League. Journalist Ron Rapoport shares stories from over 50 years of sportswriting, notably one of the last interviews Jackie Robinson would give before his passing in 1972.

We are also thrilled that legendary writer Arnold Hano ( A Day in the Bleachers) wrote the foreword for the book. The book is packed with photos from the National Baseball Hall of Fame, the Center for History, the Cleveland Indians, Minnesota Twins, Pittsburgh Pirates, and the Negro Leagues Museum.

Baseball Pioneers makes a great gift for baseball fans, history buffs, and culture vultures alike!
